The new PS3 is just around the corner. Just like the previous PS2 Sony has made the effort to reduce the size, weight and power usage of the PS3. The less bulky feel of the New PS3 will fit great by your entertainment systems. Its more manoeuvrable with its reduced weight and and the reduced power usage should go down very well with most people.
From the Original PS3 the new slim-line version is 32% smaller, 36% lighter and consumes 34% power.
The Reduction in size and power consumption comes from a complete redesign of the hardware and the semi-conductors. As a nice side effect of this the Slim PS3 is also quieter than the original, Loud noise from the consoles is something that both Playstation and Xbox users have had to put up with. Rumour are that people are upgrading to the slim version with the noise reduction as the main selling point.
The hard disk size has also been increased to 120Gb all adding to the
appeal of this new version of the PS3, The main draw however must be the
price reduction of this new model with the RRP at £249.99. Inside the
PS3 Slim however the same features are there, just tweaked for power
saving. This version is still the PS3 at its core.
One thing that may go against Sony with the sales of the PS3 has nothing to do with the quality of its product, but the reduction in price of the Stand-alone Blu-ray player. Quite a few people made the decision of what console to buy based on the fact that it was a cheap option for a Blu-ray player. The PS3 offered the Blu-ray and a gaming console all in the price. Now that decision is based purely on the console itself making a level playing field for Microsoft and Sony.
