DSi Release Date
23/02/09
Nintendo have announced the release date of the next in the line of there DS handheld games consoles. The Nintendo DSi will be officially released on the 3rd of April. Just from walking into of a few of the high street games stores it seems they are gearing up for trade-ins on the older DS model. So good news if you are looking to get hold of a new DS or even better news if you want one of the older ones at a bargain price as shortly the major players in the games industry will have plenty of DS' for sale at knocked down prices.
Features
of the new model have been
released and while some are
a little superficial, the
main upgrades are the use of
two cameras one on the front
and one on the back. The
cameras are capable of 0.2
megapixels. Not stunning by
the standards or digital
cameras or even mobile
phones these days, but
capable of taking pictures
with a resolution of 640x480
perfect for viewing on the
DSi's screen.
Replacing the GBA slot that used to be on the old Nintendo DS is a SD memory card slot for memory expansion, saving games and anything else really. No more of your old GBA games will work on this new version of the DS I'm afraid, if you just can't let go of the GBA games then you may have to keep your old DS or indeed go and buy another Game boy advance (they can't cost must these days) ;)
You are now able to download software onto your DS which will allow you to browse the net. Using the Wi-fi technology you can easily get the internet on your DS anywhere in range of your wireless router.
On the superficial side of the improvements comes the increase in size of the screen. It has been increased by 8% making both screens 3.25 inches.
The DSi is also 12% slimmer than the original probably just so they can claim that its even smaller and lighter than the "lite" version they previously made. Also the Stylus has been increased in length by 4.5mm so it sits better in your hand. (I presume this is the reason, no problems with the old stylus as far as I am aware but they must be responding to feedback from the customers)
And finally the audio system has been upgrade to include a greater level of customization and the speakers have been improved to give a better quality of sound on your games
Expect to see the Nintendo DSi costing around £149.99 depending on the bundled products.
