Uninstalling a Program - Windows 7
During the course of your computers life, many programs will be installed, some of which you will no longer require and will want to remove. What once was a common error however was that people would simply delete the folders that contained the programs that they didn't want. While this would free up storage space and leave the user with the desired effect it would not completely remove the program from your system. Deleting programs this way would leave traces of itself in the computers registry and temporary files may also exist along with user data, preferences and logs etc. These remaining files and registry entries ultimately cause a major slowdown in your PC as your computer searches for the programs that were once available to it on your system and can no longer find.
Fortunately Windows has a built in utility that allows for an easy removal of installed programs which removes the registry entries and removes temporary files to keep your system clean. This utility is found inside the control panel and then inside programs and features. From there its easy simply select the program that you wish to remove, hit uninstall and then follow the on screen instructions. This utility also shows you a bit of information on your currently installed programs. You can see how much storage space each of your applications / programs is using as well as a rough indication in to how often you use each of the programs. This can be especially useful if you need to create some storage space on your hard drive and need to remove some applications that are using a lot of storage space and that you rarely use.
Different versions of Windows may vary slightly in how the feature is worded but will always be found in the programs setting or uninstall programs inside the main control panel. Also if you are using the category display on the main control panel screen you may be able to select "uninstall a program" straight from the main control panel screen under the main heading of Programs.
