Tekken 5

When a game gets to its 5th edition and is still selling strong then it must have some good qualities. The Tekken series has been around for about 10 years and has not looked back since the creation of its classic hit Tekken 3. We find Tekken 5 is still using the same principles that made Tekken 3 such a hit. Tekken 5 uses the style of a basic fighting game, a bad thing you may think but keeping the style of play easy to use is a great bonus. Not only does it allow the learning curve to be quite short it also enhances the playability of the two player games. But don't fear, for those expert players out there, there are plenty of mouth watering combo's and difficult techniques to master for devastating effects.

Tekken 5 is also visually stunning. The graphics get improved every time and take full use of what the Playstation 2 has to offer. The arena's and characters are very well drawn. The sounds are also very hard hitting. You will know when you have been hurt, you can feel the pain through the sounds and graphics. The gameplay itself has some minor tweaks for example while playing the arcade mode you will earn gold. This gold is used to customize your characters. You can buy them new outfits and accessories to make them look exactly how you want them to. Its kind of like the Need for Speed underground of the fighting world.

The story mode is pretty standard, the way it has been for most of the series. You pick a character and fight your way through a series of battles learning why your character has chosen to fight. Then after completing the game you will witness a pre rendered scene showing your character in there after the tournament life. There are 5 difficulty levels of Ai in this mode so you should find a level that will give you a challenge. You will also find a small mini game called the devil within. This is a small cut down platform fighting game where you are outnumbered all the time. Its a small beat'em up style game that is fun for a few times. As an added bonus to Tekken 5 the disc also contains the full version of Tekken 1, 2 and 3 if you fancy a bit of retro gaming.
