    Smartphone Hints and Tips

So many people people have smartphones today and while many know how to use them there are always little tips and tricks that can be learned along the way to get the most out of your phone. I thought it would be a good idea to have hints and tips thread that people can leave there useful bits of information for everyone to make to use of. I'll start off with a battery tip.

Having your phone in Aeroplane or flight mode not only increases battery life (obviously if you dont need the cell functions) but if you need a quick charge and dont have much time to charge your phone, having your phone in flight mode will also increase the charge rate. So if you need to boost your phone in a short space of time chanrge it in flight mode. At the cost of a few minutes without wi-fi or cell coverage, you could double your charge rate. If your not expecting a call it could give you enough juice for that little trip or night out.

Please leave your own smartphonephone tips for others to use, thanks.

    BloatWare

Bloatware is a common problem on Smartphones. Some people resort to rooting their phone in order to stop some of these un-required applications from running when your phone boots up. On Android phones the introduction of Ice Cream Sandiwich (Android Version 4.0) has allowed the disabling of any application so you can start your phone with more processing power and RAM giving your phone a boost. Remember of course that some of the applications are required so be aware when you are disabling them as to which you really want to get rid of.

Here is a quick guide to changing the start up apps on Android 4.0 and above based smartphones

    Google Maps Offline

If you have a Wi-Fi iPad or android tablet you can still use Google maps even when you are not connected to the internet. Before you make a trip go onto Google maps and select the area that you will need the map for once the area of the map that you want is on the screen tap the search bar and the microphone and say "OK Maps" your device will then download this area of the maps to its cache for you to use when you don't have an internet connection. You can still zoom in further when offline. The cache will hold about 10 square miles of data which will hopefully be enough. You can obviously use this on your smartphone as well if your going in to an area where you wont have any internet connection or you just need to conserve your mobile data.

You can also type "OK Maps" without the quotation marks into the search bar for the same result as saying it. Microphone tip don't say "OK" too fast or Google may type "Okay" and this will not work, it will simply type the words "Okay Maps" into the search bar.
