DICE talks about mobile second screen features in Battlefield 4
The world is full of mobile phones and now tablet computers to the point where most people who are gaming will have one if not both of these devices next to them while they are playing their favourite games. Dice have been talking about some upcoming features in Battlefield 4 that mean you can utilize that device aspart of the game in new unique ways. Call of duty elite started using mobile devices by allowing you to change your loadouts and keep track of your stats as well as providing useful battle information. Battlefield 4 will look at taking this a step further by using your mobile device to give you information while your actually playing the game.
This takes having a companion device to whole new level, a new exiting level. EA Dice have announced the features that the next generation second screen gaming will bring
Battlescreen - using your smart device as an in-game mini map that even allows you to set attack points.
Missions - fully-customizable challenge-based missions you can set up with friends that will also send your mobile device notifications when, for instance, someone has snagged the #1 spot in a particular mission.
Realtime Loadout - swapping out loadout weapons and equipment in between matches, which takes immediate effect in the game.
Geo Leaderboards - players can now compete to be ranked in their city, country or the world.
All these features are nice but i especially like the idea of the mini map being on a larger screen next to you. Not sure exactly how it would work before trying it but I'm looking forward to giving it a go. And i'm sure that many games are going to take advantage of the fact that most gamers have mobile devices to hand. Its like the Nintendo DS having a gaming screen and an information screen in one game, only now its on the bigger screen.
It has been confrmed also that these features will not be coming to current generation consoles. So PS4's and XBOX Ones will be required to play with these new toys I'm affraid
Why dont they call it Battleview or something instead of Battlescreen? But in concerns to the current-gen missing out, I dont really care since I will be buying a next gen console.
