Intel or AMD?
Ok so here my dilemma, i'm looking to upgrade my PC which currently uses an Intel quad core processor and i'm wondering whether to go for the powerful i7 core processor or to maybe give AMD's alternative processors a go, i used to have an old AMD which had an amazing dual core processor which served me well for many years but i've always had intels up until that point. When i bought this PC from Dell it came with the best specs out at the time, but now 2 or 3 years down the line my technology is out of date and i want to keep up with even more speed and processing power, on one hand there is the intel i7, but this seems very expensive but you cannot go wrong with intel as they are experts in processing, on the other hand, theres some nice AMD alternatives which seem to be just as powerful if not more powerful but much less in price.
Am i just paying for the brand name or is there something i'm missing when comparing these two processing giants?
help me out guys!

Ive always been a fan from years back of buying the alternative CPU mainly from AMD. They offer a really good price for all round processing power. But the one thing i notice is when you get to the really top end games the top AMD CPU's just dont cut it the same as the Intel ones. However the premium you pay for an intel top CPU is massive, so I choose to just knock the detail level from Ultra High to just Very high

I've always prefered Intel myself as most PC's you buy from shops contain intel and its considered the "Standard" however i did make my own PC once and i used an AMD Dual Core process back when they were first brought out and i have to say it was pretty impressive back then, i haven't tried any of the latest Processors but the little experience i had with the AMD was impressive.

I've read somewhere that the new 8 core AMD is supposed to be good but apparently has trouble with certain things due to the way it threads things compared with the i7 processor.

I'd go AMD if your after loads of power for less although you do compramise on certain things, AMD's are more for say gaming than say photoediting, i7 is the way to go for multiple threading and extreme speeds when using programs.
