Microsoft Optical Mouse Periwinkle Features Wireless convenience without the clutter of cables or the hassle of a recharging station High-performance optical technology delivers greater accuracy and control with no mouse ball Scroll horizontally as well as vertically with Microsoft's new tilt wheel Smooth wheel action and enhanced accelerated scrolling Ergonomically designed for superb comfort using either hand Move easily between open windows simply by pushing down on the scroll wheel Compatible with Windows (XP, 2000) and Mac OS X Improved battery life The Microsoft Optical Mouse Periwinkle has all the new technology designs in the one mouse. Firstly of course is the optical nature of the mouse. Optical mice use lasers to read the surface of your desk or whatever you are resting the mouse on. From this the mouse can determine if the mouse is moving, in which direction and how fast. The second useful point of this mouse is the fact that it is wireless. No more tangling of the mouse wire or having an extra wire from your desk that is miles to long or just not long enough. The Periwinkle mouse uses 27Mhz wireless radio signals to communicate with your PC. You can even hide the radio receiver out of the way. This is even better than infra red technology as there does not have to be line of sight between the mouse and the receiver for it to work. The receiver works up to a distance of 10 feet. Easily enough for even the biggest of desktops. The third rather new feature is Microsoft's Tilt Wheel. The scroll wheel in the centre of the mouse was always used to scroll up and down pages now with tilt wheel you can scroll left and right as well. Just push the wheel in the direction you want and it will scroll. The speed of the scroll and other settings can all be adjusted with the Intellipoint 5.0 software which is included. This mouse is also suitable for both left and right handed users as it fits both hands wonderfully with its symmetrical design. Ideal for those of you with more than one user of your machine. The Mouse runs on 2 AA batteries which is said to give it a life of 6 Months before you will need to to change them. That's pretty cheap really for 6 months of wireless use. That really is the only downside of all wireless equipment it cannot get the power from the main system. Please be aware that the Intellipoint software will only work on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Mac OS 10.1 or higher. The mouse will work fine with other versions of windows however you cannot use the tilt Function and you will not be able to change what the buttons are set to as well as scroll speeds etc.
