Unleash the full multimedia capabilities of your Performance PC with the Pentium III processor -- including full-screen, full-motion video and realistic graphics for an enhanced, exciting Internet experience. With the new mobile Pentium III processor, take outstanding performance with you wherever you go!

For me personally the PIII has always been a little bit on the expensive side of things. Compared with its main rival the Athlon from AMD it seems horribly over priced. However this is not the entire story. The chip its self is over priced in my opinion but there are saving to be made with the PIII, for instance the PII does not require a massive PSU and so  a cheaper case can be used. Also socket 370 Motherboards are a lot cheaper than that of the socket A. All factors when building a PC.

However as a personal choice I would go with the Athlon.

The PIII has a ID number on it to allow more security on the internet, this number can be traced. It was originally done by Intel so they can track retailers who sell the PIII's and make sure they are no overclocking them and selling them at a higher price. The PIII had this ID number set on by default, it could however be turned off via software.

Intel is splitting their line into four versions, with the Pentium III 600MHz. you will notice that there is the standard version, the B version (133MHz bus), the E version (256K L2 on die), and the EB Version (both 133MHz bus and 256K L2 on die).
