On arrival the PSU was neatly packed tightly in a box with a power cord, screws and 2 stickers bearing the Enermax logo as well as the manual for the item. It may sound like a little thing but you don't always get things like the power cord, which makes it a nice touch to get everything you need all in your box. The Manual was very concise, showing all the connectors and the function of each individual pins on these connectors. The manual also goes into the features of this series of Power supplies which we will go into a little later. All in all first impressions were of a high quality product from a respected supplier. The next thing you will obviously look at is the quality of the product itself. Well I haven't had it long enough to say if it degrades over time but with a 3 year warranty I would say that you can be pretty sure its a high quality product, and if it should fail then 3 years is great when you can get a replacement. What I would class as one of the main selling points of the Enermax EG701AX PSU is the noise, or I should say lack of noise. The box says the maximum decibels the PSU gives out is less than 30 at full power, if this means nothing to you then let me tell you that this is quiet for a large power supply cooled by two fans. Dual Smart Fan Like I have just mentioned above the EG701AX is cooled with 2 fans for better all round cooling. Both of these fans are on a system called Smart Fan. Essentially what smart fan does is keep the fans running after the the PC has been switched off. The fans will continue to run for at least 2 minutes after shut down in order to effectively cool the components inside the PSU, this prolongs the life of your power supply and keeps performance at an optimum. The Dual fan helps to keep the noise down inside your case. With two fans circulating the air at a lower rpm, your PSU gets a good cooling solution without the need for ear plugs. If you have ever tried watching a DVD on your computer and have noisy fans inside your case, then you will now the importance of keeping the volume down. Also this better circulation will slow down any build up of dust that may reduce performance. As an added bonus, these two fans will help the overall circulation inside your case.
Separate 12V Rails Separate 12v rails for your motherboard, CPU and drives in order to produce a stable system especially to noise sensitive devices like your CPU and add on cards. The Enermax Noisetaker EG701AX is compatible with a wide range of motherboards and CPU's. This Power supply unit can be used with standard ATX boards, Athlon 64/FX boards and CPU's, Pentium for platforms including the latest Prescott, and motherboards that use 875 and 865 chipsets. Plus next gen CPU and chipset support like the 925 and 915 from Intel.

x 24pin ATX power connector There
should be enough in this package to house even the most power hungry of
users Overall we are looking at a very high quality power supply, it does come with a price though at time of writing it was just over the £100 pound mark, not something most would spend on a power supply. However I would urge you that if you are planning on building a new system with loads of drives or especially if you have a gaming system with a Graphics card that needs an extra power connector, then its well worth safeguarding these components by buying a power supply that can handle it, and the EG701AX from Enermax can handle it easily. |
