Jargon Explanation
RAM Random Access Memory - The main system memory that is used to store data required by the software currently running on your machine. RAM is by far faster than your hard disk so the computer stores its data that needs accessing there. RAM is not a permanent storage the computer needs to refresh the data in the RAM constantly to keep it there. Having more RAM than you actually need can slow down system performance.  see Virtual memory
Rambus A very high speed high bandwidth memory - still a form of DRAM.
RDRAM Rambus Dynamic Random Access Memory - see Rambus
RIMM Rambus Inline Memory Module - see Rambus
ROM Read Only Memory - ROM is a memory storage where the data can be read but not changed. As in CD-ROM you can read from the CD but not change its contents.
