Explanation |

LAN |
Local Area Network - A network that
connects computers that are in close proximity to each other.
Normally in the same building. See MAN and
WAN. |

Latency |
The time it takes for a packet of data to
travel across a network to its destination. Lower latency
equal higher network performance. |
|
LED |
Light Emitting Diode - Often used as
indicator lights, such as that to represent that something has
power, can also emit infra-red light to be used with remote
controls. |

LFE |
Low Frequency Effects - Often called
the Bass. These sounds are produced by a subwoofer on a high quality
sound system. By allowing a single speaker to produce these sounds
specifically the quality produced by the other speakers is
increased. |

Linux |
An Open Source implementation of UNIX.
Linux is a free OS and can be downloaded and many applications
are also free when written for Linux. It was designed under the
GNU license. |

LPT |
Line Print Terminal - The usual designation
for a parallel port. Usually used for peripherals
such as Printers and Scanners. |
