Jargon Explanation
Hard Disk The main storage device in a PC. Hard disks can be either IDE or SCSI. Hard disks also play host to the swap file or virtual memory which helps in the systems running. Also called HD, HDD, Hard Drive and Hard Disk Drive 
Hard Drive See Hard Disk
Hardware The physical parts of the computer - Anything you can touch of the computer is a piece of hardware. see Software
Hertz (Hz) The number of cycles per second of an electromagnetic wave, 1 Hz is equal to 1 cycle per second. 
HD See Hard Disk
HDD See Hard Disk
Hidden Surface Removal A process used in graphics cards (namely the Kyro II) which decides whether an object is going to be visible before deciding whether or not to render it. This operation lowers the memory bandwidth required in today's graphics cards. 
HIMEM High Memory - A memory manager that is utilized by both DOS and Windows
HMA High Memory Area - Extended area of a PC's memory.
Homepage The first page of a web site, which all other pages in the site are linked to either directly or indirectly. Also called the index page. 
Host A single computer that is connected to a network and serves the other computer on the network with either applications or data. see Client
Hot spot A designated area on a web page that contains a hyperlink to another part of the WWW.
HRAA High resolution Anti-Aliasing - Nvidia's idea of HRAA is not to blow up the 800x600 screen resolution then shrink it again to anti-alias the screen, but to to use a method called Quincunx AA, which checks the pixels in he surrounding area and then decides how to smooth out the jagged edges. the main point o Nvidia's technology is that you can have 4X AA for the performance hit of 2X AA. HTML Hyper Text Markup Language - Programming language used to create web pages for use on the internet.
HTTP Hyper Text Transfer Protocol - The Protocol used to transfer information from the world wide web servers to the users local internet browser.
Hub A device that connects computers to a network or connects many networks to each other.
Hyperlink A link on a web page or HTML document that leads to another web page or another part of a document.
