Jargon Explanation
Data Un-Processed information - Data in its raw form can not be easily understood by a human being. data is what we feed the computer so that it can be processed into information.
DIMM Dual Inline Memory Module - 168 Pin memory expansion. Replacing the older SIMM's and are widely used in today's computers.
DHTML Dynamic Hyper Text Markup Language - HTML with some dynamic contend made up from HTML JavaScript and CSS
DIN Deutsches Institut fur Normung (German Standards Institute) - The DIN connection is used to connect keyboards and mice to the PC. The DIN connector its self is an open metal cylinder with pins in a curved formation. DIN connectors come in two sizes. The full size DIN connector is 1/2 inch in diameter the smaller DIN connector is 5/16 inch in size.

DMA Direct Memory Access - A method of transferring data without having to go through the CPU. This allows for faster performance and also allows the CPU to spend more power on other things.
DNS Domain Name System - The DNS converts a numerical IP address such as 123.456.78 into a the registered domain name such as abcde.com.
DOM Document Object Model
Domain name An Alphabetic alternative of showing your IP address - Domain names have to be registered so that no-one has the same domain name as someone else. Domain names have to have 2 parts the actual name and the suffix. The name could be anything for example the domain name for this site is www.pantherproducts.co.uk. the name is PantherProducts and the suffix is .co.uk. Other suffix's include the most popular .com and .org and .net. Many more suffix's are coming on to the scene now to cope with internet growth. The www simply means that the site is part of the World Wide Web.
DOS Disk Operating System - The predecessor Windows from MS, there were various types of DOS like PC-DOS and MS-DOS. DOS was not capable of multitasking it could only run 1 program at a time. DOS was also text based all commands were typed, there was no GUI.
DRAM Dynamic Random Access memory - Type of memory that is stored in capacitors, A low cost memory type that needs refreshing constantly to hold the data. 
DSL Digital Subscriber Line - See ADSL
DSP Digital Signal Processing - A computer manipulation of analogue signals which have been converted into digital form.
DUN Dial Up Networking - The system used in windows where the information for dialling to an ISP is held. Dial up networking hold info such as your username and password, connection limits and options such as cut of if connection idle.
DVD Digital Versatile Disc - DVD's are here to replace the CD. In all essence they are the same but they are multi-layered allowing for massive amounts of Data storage. This enables entire movies to put onto a single disc in many different languages. Plus allowing special features such as subtitles and extra clips etc to be put on. There is also room for anything else the producers wish to add to the disc. Interactive games on movies discs are getting more popular. Games can also be put onto DVD, also re-writable DVD is available.
