Overview

The Motorola Xoom is the first tablet to be released with the new Android 3.0 operating system (honeycomb). this version of Google's Android OS was designed specifically for the larger screen of the tablet computer. Previous tablets with Android have been released with Operating systems that had been modified from earlier editions which were designed for the mobile phone market.

The Xoom features a dual core 1Ghz Tegra processor from Nvidia, giving the Xoom powerful processing power, similar to that of the Ipad 2 from Apple. We will try to keep the Ipad comparisons to a minimum in this review because we feel the two tablets are aimed at slightly different markets. The Ipad is very pick up and use, user friendly but while the Apple way is a tried a tested and a very good way, with the Ipad its the only way. The Android platform brings some more customization and a more PC like experience to the market.

Back to the features then, with the 1Ghz CPU comes 1Gb of RAM which is enough to do the job for a tablet computer. Two cameras a 5 megapixel for taking photo's and recording 720p video and a 2 mega pixel camera on the front to allow video calling over programs such as Skype. The Xoom has its very own Facetime ability (although you can't use the real facetime app obviously). the 10.1 inch screen is great for watching movies and browsing the internet. There is currently only one storage size model available so all Xoom's come with 32Gb of internal storage.

The Motorola Xoom can either be purchased as a Wi-Fi only version where internet can be reached from any wi-fi source you can access or with 3G to allow you access to the internet from anywhere in the UK (coverage by network may vary)
