Wii Sports Resort the latest big title to come on the Wii, and another one of those games that only the Wii could pull off. Wii Sports Resort is family gaming fun at there best, It simply blows away the original Wii sports game that was bundled with the Wii Console. The addition of the Wii motion plus adapter gives the game that extra touch of realism to the fun style of the many event you can take part in.
Most games can be played against the computer or a friend, and some you can do co-operatively to try and achieve the best times or the best score available. As always with the Wii games you can select your mii character and use that to keep track of your progress and skill in each event. Match them against your mates and show off your skills.
The events themselves are very varied, there is something for everyone. Racing events, skill events, accuracy events and some all out opponent bashing to be done. the full event list in Wii Sports resort is Air Sports, Archery, Basketball, Bowling, Canoeing, Cycling, Golf, Power Cruising, Frisbee, Skydiving, Swordplay, Table Tennis, and Wakeboarding.
Each of the games have some variations within them to keep the fun coming. The frisbee game for example has the option of the main game or frisbee golf. Bowling has a spares game and a nice 100 pin game for a bit of a laugh.
Now while Wii Sports Resort certainly has the fun element and is 10 times better than the original Wii sports, it still lacks in some depth. Once you have mastered some of the games they are pretty much forgotten about. Some like the table tennis have that staying power, but other like the sky diving for example will not hold you for long once you have achieved all the badges (you get a badge for each achievement you make in the event). This will leave you will a dilemma, Wii sports resort is not cheap and you are not likely to find it cheap due to the fact that the Wii motion plus adapter is a required part of the game. The standard Wii remote will not work without it.
So is the cost worth it? Personally I think its a good
buy, the motion plus can be used with other games
that are coming out and a few that are already
around. As a single player game I think it will lose
its appeal relatively quickly, but if you can get
some friends or family involved then it can be a
game that its possible to pick up again and again.
Even a year down the line, you will fancy just
having another go at some of these events. A perfect
time filler.
- Wuhu Island has so many things to do, there’s never a dull moment. A dozen activities await visitors.
- The activities use the precision controls of the Wii MotionPlus accessory to help players come much closer to the physical reality of engaging in the actual sports. Every real world action, whether it’s a perfect drive on the fairway or a slice off the course, is meant to be faithfully replicated.
- Each activity has multiple fun challenges designed to keep visitors coming back for more.
- Different activities use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk™ controllers in different ways. For example, players hold the Wii Remote like a paddle in Canoeing, while in Cycling they use both arms to “pedal” with the two controllers. The Wii MotionPlus accessory picks up every nuance of motion and translates it onto the TV screen.
- Depending on the activity, players can compete solo or against other players. Some activities even let players team up to work cooperatively.
