Pro Evolution Soccer and FIFA Soccer have been standing toe to toe at the top of the Football simulation market for the past few years, splitting the gaming public virtually down the middle. At PantherProducts we look at it like this. FIFA soccer gives you a great pick up and play arcade style football action. Perfect for a quick game with your mates with a few drinks and a good evening in. Pro Evolution Soccer gives you a game that needs to be mastered. A game that require more skill but ultimately a game that you can get a lot more out of. This latest instalment of Pro Evolution soccer see's an improvement in the graphics which were already quite stunning. The control system has been tweaked slightly and gives the user more options over tricks and flicks to beat opponents. This allows you to beat players while running slightly easier but this combated by making the dribbling a little harder as well so you cant just take on the entire team with your goalkeeper and score. On that note the shooting system has also been looked at. Konami realised that a cracker of a shot from 30-40 yards doesn't happen very often in Pro Evolution Soccer in fact its extremely rare. To tackle this they have tweaked the shooting to allow a perfectly timed shot from space to have the chance of a great goal. Remember however that it does have to be perfectly timed. The goalkeepers have also had a bit of a re-work. They have in the past been somewhat awkward in certain situations. Some major improvements in their game include the ability to rush out and smother strikers running into the box and either collect or parry the ball round for a corner. They also have improved throws being able to start a quick counter attack by throwing the ball over arm to the wings. The Master league has had some work done on it and you will see some improvements in that department while a new feature called memorial matches allows you to keep stats of yours and you mates teams to set up some intense clashes with the best players in the office.
Pro Evolution Soccer 5 is online compatible for the PS2 this year
while the other platforms had this ability on Pro Evolution Soccer 4, the
Playstation was left behind. Now however its been given the same advantage
as the Xbox and PC versions. Also added to online play is the ability to
play 2v2 online. Can you and your mates beat the best pairing from round
the world? Good news for PSP users as well you will be able to share data
from the PS2 to the PSP and take your games and teams on the road. (Click pics to enlarge - Screens taken from PS2
