The Darkness, Surprisingly a tale of the evil that lurks in the shadows. At the start of this story you play a guy named Jackie Estacado. Jackie is a hit man for the mob, Its your 21st birthday and you've been knocked out in the back of a speeding car being chased by crooked cops. A nice way to start the game. As the beginning of the story unfolds you become the target of a hit yourself, put on you by the leader of your crime gang, your own uncle.

Very early in the game you become infected with "the darkness". The darkness is this instance is a parasitic creature that manifests itself as two demonic creatures that come out of your shoulders. These creatures learn new abilities to aid you in your quests. Set mainly in New York City the virtual world is open ended and available for you to explore. The Story however is a set linear story line, eventually you have to do the things the game needs for you to progress.

The graphics are visually stunning, walking round New York in fantastic detail. Looking at the game will make you want to explore more parts of the game just to see more. The Game itself is said to be not that difficult however, especially the side missions which usually involve a short task to kill or find someone for some extra credit or a bonus feature. These side mission are not essential to the game, you can successfully complete the game without completing these extra tasks. The main story does have a good length to it though, slightly outweighing its easier difficulty.

There is a multiplayer aspect to the game, with death match, last man standing and other usual online multiplayer shooter variations. The single player game though is the main feature and will be the reason to buy this Xbox 360 shooter, that and the fact that you can get your two demon snakes to fight over eating a human heart. Must be part of the reason for the 18 certificate. The Darkness is available on the Xbox 360 and the PS3, the differences between the two consoles are very minimal with both versions running up to 1080p resolution on HD TV's.
