Set Back in the 1930's, Mafia takes you into the world of gangs, bank jobs and car chases. Your aim is to work your way through the ranks of your mafia family and fight off rival families as well as the Cops. Mafia gives you a varied amount of gaming styles. Taking to the streets in a driving style mission as well as using on-foot skills. There are 20 missions in total each with its own sub quests to complete, Use weapons like the Tommy Gun, Colt 1911, S&W model 27 MAGNUM, or pump action shotgun to keep your enemies at bay. Mafia is set in the City of Lost heaven and features over 12 square miles of American city to explore. This gives the game a great lastability with many places to visit and explore. As well as the wealth of weapons to choose from you can also drive upto 60 different vehicles to get round this 12 square miles of fiction city. Like many games of this genre, Mafia has links to the classic Grand Theft Auto III. The idea of the city being fully open to explore on foot or by car has taken quite a few games to look at being a GTA III derivative. This however is never a bad thing as the GTA III layout obviously worked extremely well. Unlike GTA III however there is a very linear story line to follow. Missions are not optional you need to complete each one in order to progress in the story. With every game like this cut scenes play a major part in telling the story. The cut scenes are well presented and get you into the feel of what you are doing. Most people wont mind seeing some story acted out before completed the missions. In the story you are Tommy, who was a cab driver by trade. Tommy was caught up in a mafia gun fight and helped some members of a mafia family escape from being murdered. Three members of the Mafiosi gang jumped into the back of his cab and ordered him to drive. Tommy's excellent driving skills managed to get them to safety. Now working for the mafia, Tommy is never short of cash and is respected in the City. Soon though Tommy see's the dark side of his new job, the assassinations, shootouts and dangerous high speed car chases. Now he has been ordered to kill people he knows. Can he continue this forever? Play your missions to continue the story. Finish the game and you are rewarded with a new feature called "free ride extreme". The idea is that you can drive round Lost Heaven City without any problems from the police. You can take 19 wild driving challenges when completing these challenges new cars are unlocked for you to drive round in. Nice to see you get something new once you've finished the game.
