Gears of war was one of the most anticipated releases for the Xbox 360. Some say its one of the most graphically beautiful game to hit the console scene. While the gameplay you certainly would of seen before, we have to say that Gears of War gets something very right, it immerse you into the game, you become part of the game, part of the team, part of the unit.

The story is set on an earth like planet called Sera. Humans colonised this planet and require a fuel that lies beneath the planets surface called Imulsion, a golden viscous liquid that is essential to the survival of the humans on Sera. But beneath the planets surface in a porous layer called the "hollow" lives the nightmare, the nightmare that is the Locust.

The Locust are humanoid beasts, savages with one intention to destroy all living trace of humans living on Sera. The Military had to act and that they did, The planet was scorched from above, destroying the surface and what they hoped would be the end of anything that lay beneath. The price to be paid was however was the loss of thousands of innocent civilians and the fact that the attack only slowed down the enemy, they were far from being wiped out.

Now a once disgraced group of soldiers rescued from a military prison may be humanities only hope of survival against these resilient beasts. The time has come for you to gear up and go to war. Possibly for the last time.

Take this challenge alone or recruit a friend and play the full game in co-operative mode. Co-op mode is available both online and offline. And Multiplayer death match modes are obviously available, with one interesting new addition to the usual format. Execution is a now multiplayer team based mode where killing your enemy is not quite enough in order finish the game you will have to head over to them and execute them by pressing your X button before one of their team mates revive them by the same method. A nice new twist to online play, it changes the whole strategy and forces you to play as a team.

If you do have an Xbox Live subscription then Gears of War is a must buy, it will be one of the most immersing games you will have ever played and exactly what the Xbox Live platform was made for. Of course there is full voice communication to make sure you and your team get your tactics spot on before you attack.
