True Crime can be described as a movie that you are immersed in. It has features somewhat similar to that of The Getaway from Sony, but with a small hint of GTA 3 in there as well in the respect of being able to drive round a set world as well as walk the streets and enter buildings. You will notice while playing this game there is a good cop / bad cop swinger keeping track of what type of police officer you have been. For example completing the set missions and sorting out random street crimes will give you good cop points, whilst at the same time there is nothing stopping you from beating up random people on the street or even running them over. These actions will of course give you bad cop points. These points can decide the end of the game.

Although you can roam freely around L.A. the story line is still quite linear ala Max Payne. To complete the game you have to follow the chapters as they are set out in front of you. Only difference is you choose when to do them and if at all. Bear in mind though that running around just hurting people all the time (like you used to in GTA3 , you know you did ! ) won't get you very far in the game. Like I said before there is a movie feel to the game and to get to the end of the movie you have to follow the story.

During the game you will be required to complete missions while driving this maybe chasing, escaping of simple following under cover. You will also have to enter gun fights but mostly your martial arts skills will come into play to defeat your enemies on the street. Good variety put into a package that almost works. Some areas need to be improved before it could be called a great game but it will certainly keep Getaway and GTA 3 fans happy for quite a while.

The main character is called Nick Kang a cop which nobody wants to work with. Throughout the game he makes a number of speeches and one line puns. This could either add something to the game for you or it could annoy you a great deal, but its in the game either way and it looks a little better than the original Max Payne style cartoon strips.
