I'm Guessing that if you are looking at this game, that you have at some point played the original Splinter Cell. If I'm right then you will have probably been waiting for this game for some time. The original was a great one player game. Pandora Tomorrow will take that one step further. Not only do we have a great one player game here but you can also go online and play special missions with other people round the world. A great addition to start with. Unlike your typical multiplayer online game though, Splinter cell 2 only supports 4 players in each game. There is a very good reason for this and that is that the nature of this game, being a stealthy shadow hugging game of espionage. You don't want 20 people running round just blasting each other. Instead you will get small teams duelling it out trying to achieve set missions by tactics and not blazing machine guns. A classic example of this small multiplayer game will be the "neutralization" game. In this game there are a team of spies and a team of mercenaries. The spies have to locate and destroy devices around the level like security systems. The mercenaries have to stop them. The spies have all the abilities that you have in the one player game but they do not carry any lethal weapons. Instead you are kitted out with a stun gun and a set of flash bangs and smoke canisters. This type of game keeps the elements of the single player mission in tact while still being a whole lot of fun. As a great little extra, if you are on the spies team you cant shoot your opponents but you can sneak up behind then to cause lethal damage with your hands. While you have a helpless mercenary at your mercy you can use a microphone to taunt him before breaking his neck. (Nice - If you like that sort of thing) The single player game has a new story line while still keeping the basics of the original game. You still control Sam in a third person view and the controls are essentially the same. However there have been some refinements to the controlling system that you may pick up on without you having to change the way you played the original Splinter Cell. One of these little extra's that we have been able to pick up on is that if you are using a dual shock or compatible controller, it will vibrate when you are close to a mine. Its a warning signal, it wont show you where it is but will give you a chance to be extra careful. You still have your trusty gadgets with you, some of which have been upgraded, such as a laser sight on your FN7 pistol. This makes targeting a lot easier but has its consequences. If you choose to put your laser sight on, your shooting will become deadly accurate however running round with a laser tends to alert the enemy. And as with a lot of these games today the AI has been enhanced a lot to allow a more human like behaviour. Seeing a laser for instance will instantly alert them and they will track your position. The choices you make can mean the difference between a successful or a failed mission, life or death.
As you play this time
you will notice that the game will recognise other operatives in the game.
You wont be the only one roaming around. This takes you nicely into the
multiplayer games when are ready to take them on. (Click to Enlarge Screen shots - Screens taken from Xbox version)
