The Chronicles of Riddick, subtitled escape from butcher bay is at heart a first person shooter. However the game exceeds the boundaries set by this genre. The Chronicles of Riddick requires to your to use first person shooting, stealth, tactics and hand to hand combat skills to be effective at this game. There is also an adventure element in the game which allows you to explore the surround environment. The game is based as you may imagine on Riddick a character you may know if you have seen the film Pitch Black. The Chronicles of Riddick is set before Pitch Black, when Riddick was send to prison in Butcher bay, the most secure prison around. You mission is to break free from this un-escapable prison. Graphically this game is superb. Alot of detail has gone into the look and feel of the Chronicles of Riddick. The sound also does not skimp on quality. Each character you interact with is unique, they all have there own personality, look and voice. This depth adds to the realism of the game. Even Riddick sounds very authentic with the very deep voice of Vin Diesel delivering all the dialog. The gameplay is very deep and has many angles. The tactics that you need to use will become apparent, such as hiding, recuperating or simply sneaking past enemies as well as blasting them away. You will also need to utilize hand to hand combat skill. Using your hands, feet and various melee weapons. The left analogue stick can provide Riddick with different close range attacks. You will soon be using devastating combo's to finish off you enemies. Again those of you that have seen the film Pitch Black will know that Riddick has a rather mysterious set of shining eyes. These eyes give Riddick the ability to see very well in the dark. However this also have a downside, that any light source will blind you. You can use "Eye shine" in The Chronicles of Riddick and you can toggle it on and off depending on the conditions you are in. There is no multiplayer game in the Chronicles of Riddick which may seem a little odd for a game that is essentially a First Person shooter. The game does however have multiple difficulty levels which makes playing the game through again worth while. (Click to Enlarge Screen shots)
