Its time to upgrade that PC folks. If you have left it dormant over the years then it needs that upgrade just so you can play Doom 3. This has to be one of the most anticipated games of the year. ID software have been working on this game for a long tie and the screens look fantastic. The only problem is the heavy system requirements, the hardcore gamers out there will already have the system capable of running Doom 3 smoothly but some of the casual gamers may struggle to keep up with this ahead of its time game. The main requirement is the need for a fully DirectX 9.0b compatible graphics card in order to utilize all the great new graphics techniques that are present in Doom 3. The key to Doom 3 is detail. And we mean detail here, this is no simple first person shooter game, this is a true adventure and almost its own horror movie. In fact the amount of detail that has been put into Doom 3 has caused it to be given an 18 rating. You may think we are talking mainly about graphic detail here but its not just that at all. The sound is very intimidating. Everything is geared to shock you, scare you or generally make you feel sick. Further to the detail aspect, the characters are unique, there is not a standard scientist model etc like the original half life for example. Sure the same type of monster looks the same but hey they do anyway don't they? Besides there are plenty of type of monster to keep you occupied. Doom 3 is objective based. Basically meaning you will be given tasks throughout the game as you complete each one the story will continue with a cut scene you will be given more information and asked to carry on to another certain death mission. This I suppose is a little linear but its not a platform game style linear you can still roam around looking for trouble. At heart Doom 3 is an FPS and as such there is simply plenty of picking up your gun and splattering enemies across the walls. You will find though that even though this is a standard game format, you will be able to splatter your enemies in the most graphically appealing way every before seen.
