Webmaster Resources - Promoting your WebsiteSearch engines Now you have your website hosted with its own domain name and you want the next logical step. You want to attract visitors to your site. There are a number of ways of doing this. Firstly there is the most important one of all, that is Search engines. Search engines give most sites about 90% of its traffic. Without them the internet would be a wide open mess, with everybody lost. Only a few well known sites would be found. Your site would have no chance of surviving without these search engines. The biggest site engine at the moment is Google. Google has grown in the past few years and now its listing appear on a great deal of other sites as well as its own. If you are listed in Google you have a good chance of getting some visitors. However Google has its own rules. Firstly a site outside of your has to link to you before you get indexed. This is a way of filtering out some of the rubbish that finds its way onto the internet. Once you have achieved that Google will find its way to you eventually. Or you could speed this step up by requesting that Google takes a look at your site. Google plus other top engines are below if you want to manually add your listings Other search engines display the results from these engines as well so if you can get in here your on to a winner. It is possible to buy listing and PPC search engines. a PPC engine is a Pay Per Click search engine. Here you can bid on keywords such as "hosting" or "cheap holiday" anything you like. when someone searches for these terms the sites will be listed in order of what they bided for the visitor. Being top of the list is an advantage because you get more hits and all your visitors are targeted. This is a good idea if you are a business and can profit from visitors. If its a hobby site though I doubt you will be wanting to "buy" you visitors. The top PPC search engines are E-spotting and Overture. Linking Reciprocal linking a great way of getting hits. The key to this is hard work. Working hard to find the right sites to link to and have link back. The sites you want are in the same category as yourself but are not direct competition. by searching under the terms that you would expect to find your site you might find some sites that are willing to link to you. When you e-mail the webmaster make it a personal e-mail with the amount of junk e-mail floating about the net they will need to know that it is not an automated mail. Also do not expect a reply from everybody. And everybody who does reply may not want to link. They may consider you to be opposition. Fast Traffic Fast Traffic as I like to call it is not really top of my list for getting visitors although some people say that it works really well. There are many different ways of getting fast traffic. The general idea is that either you pay a company who will then pass on some of the money to visitors who get paid for visiting a number of these websites. also there are companies who will give you visitors in exchange for you visiting other websites. If you think that a huge amount of visitors will improve your sites presence on the web then take a look at some of these sites.

then send you more as you surf other sites Banner exchange programs are another way of getting your site noticed. These programs work on the same principle as the ones above however it works with banner exposures. So for every banner you show on your site a banner of yours will be shown on somebody else's site.
