The VIA K8T800
is designed for the Athlon64 and the Athlon64-FX. These new 64-bit CPU
from AMD require a whole new platform to work on and VIA have come up
with one of the first. Among the features of the K8T800 chipset are the
support for Serial-ATA, a 1.6Ghz hyper transport bus link, Gigabyte
Ethernet and a 7.1 sound system build in. You can read more on the AMD

Every release of
a new chipset has its own marketing feature. Whether it be the first
board to have implemented 8x AGP or have Serial ATA on board, something
has to set the new chipset apart from the previous model. In this case
VIA have worked on the HyperTransport Bus Link. They have come up with
Hyper8. The idea behind Hyper8 is that it removes the interference in
the HyperTransport link which often results in manufacturers having to
lower the data load of the bus. With this problem eliminated the Hyper8
Transport bus can operate at a maximum of 6.4Gb/s.
